Supporting vulnerable Tasmanians in action

Nic Street, Minister for Housing and Construction

The Rockliff Liberal Government understands that actions and not words are key in overcoming homelessness.

Minister for Housing and Construction, Nic Street, said that every Tasmanian deserves a roof over their head and this Government is continuing to do everything we can to help more Tasmanians.

"That's why we are proud of the work we are doing to deliver our ambitious, long-term housing plan that aims to halt homelessness in its tracks," Minister Street said.

"The Government is able to use our strong economy to deliver on our commitment to invest in housing, increasing supply and addressing the needs of vulnerable people by providing safe and secure accommodation for Tasmanians.

"We are investing over $38 million annually on Specialist Homelessness Services to provide our most vulnerable with a safe place to stay and much needed wrap around services.

"There are currently 19 homeless shelters and three Safe Spaces operating around the State who are supporting Tasmanians every day.

"Whilst homelessness is something that impacts people from all walks of life, we are focusing intently on those groups considered most at risk.

"We are taking action on crisis and transitional accommodation available specifically for women with nearly fifty units around the state.

"The Family Violence Rapid Rehousing program supports people affected by family violence with transitional accommodation in the private rental market at subsidised rent.

"Our Youth2Independence program is an innovative response to supporting young Tasmanians who may be at risk or already experiencing homelessness, an initiative that I champion with immense pride.

"The Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to providing safe, secure and fit-for-purpose housing options for our most vulnerable Tasmanians and we are working hard to ensure we meet this goal."
