Surry Hills RES charge five over supply of 'ice' and pseudoephedrine

Surry Hills Region Enforcement Squad investigators have charged five people following an investigation into the supply of 'ice' and prescription medications across Sydney.

In August last year, officers from Surry Hills Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Cattanach to investigate the activities of an alleged criminal syndicate involved in supply of methylamphetamine (ice) and precursors, including pseudoephedrine, across Sydney.

Following extensive investigations, Surry Hills RES investigators executed six search warrants at Ultimo, Glebe, Leumeah, Rosemeadow and Douglas Park from 5am yesterday (Wednesday 30 June 2021).

Surry Hills RES were assisted throughout the operation by the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU), the Central and South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group (OSG), Redfern RES, the Dog Unit and officers from Campbelltown City, Camden, Leichhardt and Sydney City Police Area Commands.

During the searches, police seized methylamphetamine (ice), cannabis, prescription medications, cash and electronic devices.

Five people – three men and two women – were arrested during the operation.

It will be alleged that the syndicate was involved in the supply of nearly 18kg of pseudoephedrine and 4.5kg of methylamphetamine (ice) – with a total estimated potential street value of more than $1 million – between January and June this year.

A 46-year-old woman and 50-year-old man were arrested at Leumeah and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

The woman was charged with supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), found on/entering/leaving drug premises and conspiracy to take part supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity). Police will allege in court the woman was involved in the supply of 13kg of pseudoephedrine. She appeared at Campbelltown Local Court yesterday, where she was refused bail to reappear at Central Local Court on Wednesday 7 July 2021.

The man was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), conspiracy to supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), manufacture prohibited drug (indictable quantity – not cannabis), found on/entering/leaving drug premises and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime. Police will allege in court the man was involved in the supply of 13kg of pseudoephedrine and 4.5kg of methylamphetamine. He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Thursday 1 June 2021).

A 33-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were arrested at Ultimo and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

The woman was charged with 14 offences including; three counts of supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), six counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, use carriage service to menace/harass/offend, organises/conducts/assists drug premises, deal with property proceeds of crime and possess prohibited drug. Police will allege in court the woman was involved in the supply of 18kg of pseudoephedrine and 1kg of methylamphetamine.

The man was charged with nine offences including; six counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, organises/conducts/assists drug premises and possess prohibited drug. Police will allege in court that the man was involved in the supply of 1kg of methylamphetamine.

The pair were both refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 1 July 2021).

A 31-year-old man was arrested at Douglas Park and taken to Narellan Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), possess prohibited drug, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and deal with property proceeds of crime.

He appeared at Picton Local Court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 14 July 2021.

Investigations under Strike Force Cattanach are continuing.
