Survey Launches on Consent, Respectful Ed

Dept of Education, Skills and Employment

The survey is open to young people 14-18 years and will examine awareness and understanding of issues surrounding consent and respectful relationships education. The survey includes questions about demographics, relationship experiences, knowledge of sexual consent and attitudes towards gender norms.

The Australian Government has invested $5.5 million for the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) to conduct the survey.

AHRC conducted extensive stakeholder consultation with Australian and international researchers, state and territory education departments, Catholic and Independent school sector representatives and Expert and Technical Advisory groups to develop the survey. Questions were tested through the Youth Advisory Group and a pilot study.

The survey is part of the Australian Government's commitment to ensure all Australian students receive high-quality, age-appropriate and evidence-based consent and respectful relationships education to shift attitudes and behaviours to prevent violence against women and children.

Findings will be used to inform improvements to consent and respectful relationships in Australian schools.

Participants can remain anonymous and can skip questions or exit at any time. Links to a range of support services and resources are available to support participants if required. All data will be de-identified to ensure participant privacy.

The survey is open until 30 June 2026.
