From today, e-cargo bikes join the Sustainable Household Scheme, helping Canberrans save on their weekly fuel costs while reducing their environmental footprint.
E-cargo bikes provide households with a realistic alternative to a second car, maintaining the flexibility needed for day-to-day activities like school drop-off and grocery trips.
Since 2021, the Sustainable Household Scheme has helped more than 26,000 households save over $178 million through reduced household bills and fuel savings.
The Scheme provides low-interest loans from $2,000 to $20,000, helping eligible Canberrans improve their household energy efficiency and purchase low-emissions transport options.
Households can purchase one or several energy-efficient electric products, including battery storage systems, electric heating and cooling systems, hot water heat pumps, electric stovetops, electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and ceiling insulation.
The regions of Belconnen and Tuggeranong account for 55% of all loans, with Canberra's outer suburbs benefiting most from the Scheme.
