City of Darwin is currently seeking expressions of interest from community members to join its Reconciliation Advisory Committee.
The committee provides advice and guidance to Council on reconciliation actions that strengthen relationships between First Nations and non-First Nations people, fostering respect and inclusion for all who live, work, study or visit Darwin.
Submissions are open from Monday 12 January to Monday 9 February 2026.
The City of Darwin's Reconciliation Advisory Committee is helping shape a more inclusive and culturally respectful city and is now inviting two community members to join this important work.
Since its establishment in 2022 the committee has played a key role in advancing reconciliation across the municipality by advising Council and supporting the delivery of its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
The second RAP (2023-2025) marked a significant step forward in its reconciliation journey, further advancing the five dimensions of reconciliation: Race Relations, Equality and Equity, Institutional Integrity, Unity, and Historical Acceptance.
Our second RAP delivered key plans for our workforce and delivered great outcomes through our grant program for First Nations Organisations, these included:
First Nations Career Development Plan
First Nations Recruitment Plan
First Nations Cultural Learning Plan
NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week Community grant opportunities
Delivery of Reconciliation Week program across three sites including two public events with First Nations Event Partner.
Acting Lord Mayor Patrik Ralph said the Reconciliation Advisory Committee ensures First Nations voices were heard and reflected in council decision-making.
"This committee plays a critical role in strengthening relationships, guiding culturally respectful practices and shaping outcomes that benefit the whole community," he said.
"We encourage people with lived experience, cultural knowledge and a commitment to reconciliation to put their hand up."
Reconciliation Advisory Committee Community Members Adrian Rotumah and Alinta McGuire, both appointed in May 2025, say the committee plays an important role in strengthening First Nations representation within council and the community.
Alinta McGuire said joining the Committee was a meaningful way to give back and help shape a vibrant, inclusive city that benefits residents while creating welcoming and culturally respectful experiences for visitors.
She encouraged local First Nations people to consider, saying it provides a valuable platform to share voices, perspectives and cultural knowledge in shaping a more reconciled future.
For Adrian Rotumah, he is proud to contribute insights into the challenges faced by First Nations people in Darwin and to support practical initiatives that embed First Nations perspectives into Council policies, programs and everyday operations.
Expression of Interest submissions are open from Monday 12 January to Monday 9 February 2026.
