Tasmania has highest business confidence in country

Michael Ferguson, Treasurer

The February 2023 NAB Monthly Business Survey shows that the Rockliff Liberal Government's plan for Tasmania is working, as our State maintains the highest business confidence in the country.

Treasurer, Michael Ferguson, said the report shows Tasmania maintaining its strong business confidence, rated as significantly higher than any other state in the nation. It also shows Tasmania maintaining the second highest business conditions rating in the country, second only to Queensland.

"This report comes off the back of recent ABS data that shows Tasmania having a record high participation rate of 62.7 per cent, Job Vacancies 112 per cent higher than before the pandemic, and an unemployment rate of 4 per cent. This is only possible with sound economic management that encourages business growth and investment in our State," Treasurer Ferguson said.

"The NAB report also echoes the most recent CommSec State of the States report that noted Tasmania as the second best performing economy in the nation, having improved on all 8 performance indicators since we came into government in 2014.

"Labor can attempt to cherry pick and catastrophize all it wants. The reality is however, that since the disastrous days of the Labor-Green Government 54,172 Jobs have been created, and the unemployment rate has dropped by 3.4 per cent from a whopping 7.4 per cent when they left Government.

As the data shows, a strong business sector means more jobs for Tasmanians.

"Having a strong economy allows us to invest more into the things Tasmanians care about most like health, education, housing and community infrastructure. We will continue to harness Tasmania's competitive strengths to build on these gains, and grow an even more resilient and diverse economy for the future."
