Tasmanian Hospitality Firms Shine on National Stage

Dean Young, Liberal Member for Franklin

Four Tasmanian hospitality businesses have excelled on the national stage, taking out awards in the Australian Hotels Association National Awards for Excellence.

Held in Adelaide on Monday, Tasmania had 24 venues nominated across a range of categories.

Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Industry, Dean Young, congratulated all 24 businesses for being nominated among the country's best hospitality businesses.

"We know how fantastic our hospitality sector is and I am so pleased four Tasmanian businesses have been recognised as best in the country in their category," Mr Young said.

"Congratulations to Cataract on Paterson, the Old Woolstore, Furneaux Restaurant and Tasmanian Wild Seafood Adventures on their success at the national awards."

TASMANIAN WINNERS:

  • Best Restaurant - Regional: Furneaux Restaurant
  • Outstanding Community Service & Achievement: The Old Woolstore
  • Best Marketed Hotel – General Division: Cataract on Paterson
  • Best Tourism Initiative: Tasmanian Wild Seafood Adventures

Tasmania's hospitality sector plays an integral role in the State's tourism ecology and is part of the lifeblood of our regional economies.

"These award-winning businesses are among the more than 2000 hospitality venues that provide unique Tasmanian experiences to our tourists and inject more than $700 million into the economy," Mr Young said.

"This is a fantastic contribution to our State, with recent visitor data showing Tasmania welcomed 1.28 million visitors for the year ending June 2023 and visitor spend was $3.853 billion."

Every dollar spent by visitors to Tasmania adds to our economy, especially in our regions, meaning more to reinvest into health, housing, education, and transformational infrastructure to set our State up for decades to come.

"The hospitality industry is also a jobs powerhouse, employing about 8 per cent of Tasmania's workforce, including supporting thousands of regional jobs," Mr Young said.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government will always support local businesses that are creating and securing local jobs, as well as helping to further strengthen our economy.
