Tasmania has even more to celebrate during National Skills Week with the Tasmanian WorldSkills Team landing back in Tasmania today having claimed five silver medals at the WorldSkills competition in Melbourne.
Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth, Felix Ellis, said National Skills Week celebrates the outstanding career opportunities and value of vocational education and training (VET).
"With the WorldSkills Australia comp - the nation's largest skills competition - being held in Melbourne last week it's great to have the team come home during Skills Week," Minister Ellis said.
"The 2023 WorldSkills championships provides the chance for young Tasmanians to test their skills against peers on the national stage.
"It provides the perfect showcase of the quality of our vocational education and training system, and Tassie has punched above once again."
Minister Ellis said these awards added to our Tasmania's recent strong results in Worldskills competitions, having taken home 11 gold medals, now eight silver medals, and three bronze medals in the past four competitions.
"We have also been recognised as the best performing region in Australia in four of the previous 11 events," Mr Ellis said.
"Congratulations to every single member of Team Tasmania on their outstanding success. I hope the team's performance inspires even more young Tasmanians to take up a trade."
The theme for National Skills Week 2023 is "What are you looking for?", focusing on the opportunities in VET to match interests with training and careers.
