Work to deliver the new home of the Tasmania Devils football club is set to kick off, with the contractor for the state's AFL-AFLW Training and Administration Facility locked in.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, announced Tasmanian construction company Fairbrother as the successful contractor.
"This is a significant next step in delivering our AFL and AFLW teams and setting them up for success," Minister Duigan said.
"With Fairbrother locked in, construction can now commence on the high performance centre.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are investing in keeping our economy strong, creating jobs and building the infrastructure our community needs."
The Tasmanian Government is also delivering the broader Kingborough sporting precinct works.
"This includes Oval 3 and Oval 4, with work already underway on Oval 3, which will house Kingborough Tigers Football Club and become the Devils' secondary training oval," Minister Duigan said.
Dan Wylie, Kingborough Football Club President, said the Kingborough Tigers Football Club is excited to see the future of the precinct beginning to take shape.
"Before long, some of the country's best footballers will be welcomed into our community as the Tasmania Devils begin their AFL journey," Mr Wylie said.
"The Twin Ovals complex has been a wonderful home for the Tigers over the past 16 years, providing the setting for premiership success, AFL pre-season matches, Coates Talent League and Tasmanian representative football, as well as the development of our junior, senior and Auskick communities.
"Whilst season 2027 and beyond will look a little different for the Tigers, the Devils calling Kingborough home is a tremendous win for our municipality and for football across Tasmania. We are excited by what their entry into the AFL in 2028 will mean for the next generation of local players, volunteers and supporters.
"We look forward to welcoming the community to our new home just up the road at Twin Oval 3, and to the next chapter in the 140-year history of the Kingborough Tigers Football Club."
Kingborough District Cricket Club President, Jeff Ross, said the appointment of a builder is an exciting milestone for the Devils high performance centre and the broader Kingborough Sports Precinct.
"The project will deliver lasting benefits for the Knights, other sporting groups and the wider community," he said.
"We have greatly valued the collaborative approach and look forward to seeing the precinct take shape."
