Socceroo and Westfield Matildas greats, international stars, media personalities and a Hollywood actor have all joined the cause as the teams for the Oz Football Aid charity match have been confirmed.
Former Socceroos midfielder Craig Foster and award-winning actor Anthony LaPaglia will captain two star-studded sides for the match which is supporting Australia’s bushfire recovery efforts through Oz Football Aid.
The match is being played this Saturday, January 25 at AAMI Park in Melbourne as a curtain-raiser to the Hyundai A-League match between Melbourne City and Perth Glory.
Among the players to take part in the match include ex-Socceroos Mark Bresciano, Josh Kennedy and Josip Skoko, as well as former Westfield Matildas stars Melissa Barbieri, Kate Gill and Sarah Walsh.
Scottish international and ex-Premier League striker Paul Dickov adds some international flair, while the likes of Hyundai A-League legends Archie Thompson, Clint Bolton and Fahid Ben-Khalfallah have also been confirmed.
For each ticket sale to the curtain-raiser and Hyundai A-League encounter between Melbourne City FC and Perth Glory, City will donate $2 to Rural Aid.
As a part of the fundraiser, the Hyundai A-League’s major partner, Hyundai, will provide a newly released Hyundai Venue car as a fundraising prize, with all future donations of $100 or more to football’s charity partner, Rural Aid eligible to win the car.
The winner will be drawn on the day of the Hyundai A-League Grand Final, and the car will be delivered personally to the winners by Foster and LaPaglia.
