Teen arrested after pointing laser at Polair helicopter in Penrith

A teenager has been arrested after he allegedly shone a laser at a Polair helicopter in Sydney’s west last night.

About 11.30pm (Friday 10 November 2017), a Polair helicopter was flying over Penrith as part of a proactive patrol when it was targeted by a laser.

The crew of the helicopter notified police on the ground and an investigation was commenced.

A short time later, following investigations, police from Penrith Local Area Command located the teen hiding in the backyard of a home on Reserve Street, NSW Police say.


The 17-year-old boy was arrested and the laser pointer was seized.

The teen was taken to Penrith Police Station where he was interviewed and later released.

He will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
