Teen Charged With 22 Property Crimes in S. Brisbane

Bayside and Centenary Property Crime Teams have charged a 16-year-old boy with 22 offences following investigations into property crimes across South Brisbane District.

Between 7 March to 26 May, it is alleged the boy committed breaks and stole vehicles across Beenleigh, Belmont, Redland Bay, Runcorn, Springwood, Sunnybank Hills, Thornlands, and Victoria Point.

On 26 May, Bayside investigators with the assistance of Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad located and arrested the teen at a Waterline Boulevard address in Thornlands.

The 16-year-old Macleay Island boy has since been charged with six counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, four counts each of enter dwelling and commit and receiving tainted property, two counts each of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break and stealing, and one count each of attempted enter dwelling with intent, attempted enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, enter dwelling with intent at night and enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence.

His police bail was refused and he first appeared before Brisbane Children's Court on 27 May.

The arrest was one of the latest under Operation Yankee Forge.

As of 26 May, South Brisbane District police have charged 653 people with 1,704 offences relating to robbery, unlawful entry and car theft under the operation.

Operation Yankee Forge is a six-month, district-led, statewide initiative targeting high-harm and high-volume offences, including unlawful use of motor vehicles, unlawful entry and robbery.

The operation will enhance policing activities across Queensland to reduce victim numbers and strengthen community safety.

Police regions, supported by specialist squads, will undertake coordinated disruption activities across the state. Police will target high-harm offenders and work closely with partner agencies to ensure offenders are held accountable. With a strong focus on crime prevention, police will be highly visible as they prevent, disrupt and investigate offending, with particular emphasis on unlawful use, robbery and unlawful entry.

The operation will be locally led and centrally coordinated, leveraging the knowledge and experience of officers who know their communities best.
