Teenager charged over fatal crash at Berkeley

A teenager has now been charged following investigations into a fatal crash that occurred in the state's south earlier this year.

Just after 11.30pm on Sunday 10 May 2020, emergency services were called to Hertford Street, Berkeley, after reports a motorcycle and a car collided.

On arrival officers from Lake Illawarra Police Area Command found a 17-year-old boy and his 16-year-old female pillion passenger, suffering serious injuries. They were both treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for treatment.

The male driver of a Toyota Aurion, aged 18, was also taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

On Thursday 14 May 2020, the 16-year-old girl died in hospital.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit commenced inquiries and yesterday (Saturday 15 August 2020), the 17-year-old youth was issued with a Court Attendance Noticed for dangerous driving occasioning death, and negligent driving occasioning death.

He is due to appear in a children's court on Tuesday 13 October 2020.
