Four teenagers have been arrested following a pursuit in the state's west today.
About 2am today (Friday 28 August 2026), officers from New England Police District were patrolling Edward Street when they sighted an SUV.
Police attempted to stop the SUV, and when they driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued on Edward Street when a rear seat passenger was observed allegedly leaning out of the vehicle and filming pursuing police.
The pursuit was terminated on Frome Street. Police continued to monitor the vehicle with the assistance of a PolAir Remote Drone.
The SUV briefly stopped on Jones Street, where two passengers – a girl and boy both aged 15 – exited the vehicle and were arrested by police.
The SUV continued on Boston Street, where it allegedly drove onto the incorrect side of the road and crashed into a stationary marked police vehicle, before leaving the scene.
No officers were injured.
About 4am, the SUV was located abandoned on Chester Street, after it crashed into a tree.
Following inquiries, officers attended an address on Chester Street and arrested a 19-year-old man and 14-year-old boy.
The four teenagers were taken to Moree Police Station.
The 14-year-old boy – who police will allege was driving the SUV - was charged with:
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner,
- Police pursuit not stop drive dangerously,
- Face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence,
- Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed manner dangerous.
He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today.
The 19-year-old man was charged with be carried in conveyance without consent of owner.
He was issued with a court attendance notice to appear before Moree Local Court on Friday 18 September 2026.
The 15-year-old girl and boy were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
Police will allege in court the SUV was stolen during a break and enter at a business on Bullus Drive, Moree, earlier the same day.
