Temporary closure for future goals at Moorabbin West Reserve

We're resurfacing Moorabbin West Reserve to improve the safety of the playing surface and address drainage issues at the sportsground.

The home ground of the Moorabbin West Cricket Club and Moorabbin Kangaroos Football Club will be temporarily closed from 21 September 2020 until July 2021 for these works.

We're upgrading the cricket wicket, laying drought tolerant turf, and installing a new irrigation system to ensure this sportsground can manage the high level of shared use at this site. Fencing will also be installed around the sportsground.

Council acknowledges that sportsgrounds are popular recreation areas, especially during COVID-19 restrictions. The pandemic restrictions may last for an extended period and it is not possible to defer all projects until this is resolved. Nearby alternate recreation areas include A.W. Oliver Reserve and G.L. Basterfield Park.

We are progressing with improvement projects to support the successful comeback of community sport when pandemic restrictions are eased, and ensure our recreation areas enable long-term community connection, health and wellbeing.

This upgrade has been timed to coincide with the summer growing season of the instant turf grass, which will enable the sportsground to be closed for the shortest time period.
