Temporary Drone Flying Restrictions in Canberra and Sydney

There will be airspace restrictions in Sydney and Canberra between 22-25 May as the cities host a significant event.

Drone owners are urged to check one of the CASA-verified drone safety apps if planning to fly a drone within 28 km of Sydney Airport and 21 km of Canberra Airport during this time.

Airspace restrictions

Between 22-25 May, drone owners and operators are prohibited from flying their drone in restricted areas.

The restrictions:

  • will be active on certain days and at certain times
  • apply to drones and model aircraft of all sizes and weights including drones that might be considered small toys
  • can be identified through the CASA-verified drone safety apps and website.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not fly in areas where restrictions are in place - heavy penalties may apply if you operate illegally.
