The Finocchiaro CLP Government continued its push to position the Territory at the centre of national trade and investment priorities, with Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations Robyn Cahill attending the Ministerial Council on Trade and Investment (MCTI) in Melbourne today.

The MCTI brings together trade and investment ministers from every jurisdiction and is chaired by the Australian Government Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon. Don Farrell.

At the meeting, Minister Cahill advocated for issues important to the Territory to ensure national settings support the Territory's continued growth.

"The meeting provided an opportunity to advocate on issues of importance to the Territory, including investment, trade, workforce and deepening economic engagement with key Asian markets," Minister Cahill said.

"Critically, I had the opportunity to advocate to my Australian, State and Territory colleagues on the strategic importance of the Beetaloo Sub-Basin not just to Australia but also our Asian and Indo Pacific neighbours."

"Other matters of strategic importance to the Territory discussed included the contribution of International Students to the Territory economy and the need for focused skilled migration to support projects such as Nolan's Arafura Rare Earths."

While in Melbourne, Minister Cahill also met with investors and industry stakeholders to advance partnership opportunities and promote the Northern Territory as a globally connected investment destination.

The Finocchiaro CLP Government will continue working to make the Territory the most competitive place to live, work, visit and invest, and keep the economy moving forward.
