Territory International Student of the Year Announced

Friday 11 March

The 2021 Study NT International Student of the Year has been awarded to Jimena Espitia at the annual Welcome Reception, held last night in Darwin.

The Study NT International Student of the Year Award recognises the outstanding contributions international students make to the Northern Territory community and acknowledges students demonstrating academic excellence.

Jimena grew up in Colombia and moved to the Territory in 2019, where she commenced her studies with International House Darwin.

Jimena volunteers for international student organisation Kindness Shake, the Australia Day Council Northern Territory and Melaleuca Australia.

As a volunteer Jimena was responsible for organising the inaugural Kindness Festival in 2021. In that role she welcomed over 4,000 attendees, brought together more than 30 organisations and five multicultural groups, coordinated more than 30 multicultural performances and organised food vendors and entertainment activities.

Additionally, Jimena has been a dedicated and committed Study NT International Student Ambassador during the year long program in 2021.

As at November 2021 there were over 4300 international students enrolled in the Territory across 20 international education and training providers.
