The only black flamingo in the world spotted again

An incredible footage of black flamingo feeding alongside its counterparts was captured on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, Cyprus Our Island Blog reported.

Although a black flamingo was sported in Israel in 2014, scientists think this flamingo is likely to be the same one migrated due to seasonal changes because the chance of a flamingo being in black color is extremely unusual to happen.

Researchers believe the unusual color is caused by a genetic anomaly called melanism, which causes more than normal color pigments to be produced.

“A melanistic individual is a very, very rare sighting ... basically it’s the opposite of an albino when the individual produces more melanin than normal,” Pantelis Charilaou, head of the environmental department of the British Sovereign Bases, said.
