Mayor Cr Alex del Porto said everyone has the right to feel safe no matter where they live.
"We'll continue to work with Victoria Police to pro-actively identify and respond to any safety issues experienced by residents and visitors to the municipality."
"We meet regularly with Victoria Police and work together with local organisations to keep Bayside the safe place we know and love. This includes sharing community safety reminders on topical issues."
Council has established a Community Safety Committee inclusive of Victoria Police, Neighbourhood Watch 3193 and a range of other organisations to promote community safety and wellbeing.
The Committee aims to raise awareness and create a whole of community approach to pro-actively identify and respond to safety issues experienced by residents and visitors to the municipality.
President of Neighbourhood Watch 3193 Phil Lovel, (covering Beaumaris and Black Rock) says be aware, not afraid.
"Criminals are opportunistic, so let's reduce their opportunity for crime," Phil said.
He urges the community to keep their doors - cars and homes - locked and remove garage remote controls from vehicles left in driveways.
"You'd be surprised how many people leave doors unlocked. Locking up is one easy way to increase our personal safety," Phil said.
Community safety is a whole of community responsibility and we ask all residents to support the police in reducing crime and strengthening community safety.
