On Saturday 25 February, Rockhampton Regional Council will be entering Stage 3 of the works for the much-needed upgrade on Farm and Alexandra Street.

The Member for Rockhampton, Barry O'Rourke welcomed the upgrade as he said it will deliver much needed change.

"Projects like this one funded under the state-wide Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) are aimed at supporting local transport infrastructure, creates jobs and build vital infrastructure.

"The inconvenience of road closures and delays can be frustrating but in the long term will make the intersection safer for all road users."

Infrastructure Councillor Ellen Smith said Council we will be starting the third and final stage of works which are expected to be completed by the end of May 2023, subject to ground and weather conditions.

"These works are essential to ensure the safety of the residential properties, businesses, pedestrians and road users in the area.

"With further development and heavy vehicles, this intersection will only get busier, which is why we need to ensure it can handle the increase in traffic and population going forward.

"The final stage of the works will include the reconstruction of 180 metres of Alexandra Street, stormwater upgrades and construction of new footpaths along Farm and Alexandra Street.

"The changes over will involve the implementation of new detours and slight changes to how the public can enter the area.

"Temporary road closures and other traffic changes will continue to be implemented as the project progresses."

Divisional Councillor Donna Kirkland said she really appreciates the patience of the community and business during these works.

"I understand that there has been a large impact on those who use the area and the wider community.

"The detours are only temporary, and this upgrade will benefit the area immensely.

"Anyone who uses this intersection will agree that it can be very busy, particularly during peak hours, and the upgrade to the intersection will go a long way in improving the safety and useability of the intersection for all.

"I know that regular users of this intersection will be very pleased to see these works progressing on schedule and will be glad with the end result."
