For over seven decades, the U.S. National Science Foundation has invested in people and programs that expand the frontiers of knowledge and technology through curiosity-driven research and use-inspired, solutions-oriented work. This week, NSF Director Sethuraman Panchanathan celebrated those who have advanced the fields of science, technology and innovation and looked for opportunities to broaden participation in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics enterprise.

Panchanathan congratulated this year's National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology and Innovation laureates for their groundbreaking achievements which exemplify the spirit of American innovation, noting that, "NSF remains committed to investing in the scientists, engineers, inventors and students that will lead to the next generation of key innovations that unravel mysteries, solve pressing problems, and drive our nation's economic and national security." Panchanathan also participated in a fireside discussion at the EDGE Consortium's fall summit. The EDGE Consortium is a coalition of women leaders across the nation's leading research-active universities and schools of engineering dedicated to expanding equity and diversity in the semiconductor industry workforce. NSF is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive STEM community and continues to invest in resources and initiatives to create sustained growth and make lasting change.
