Three people have been apprehended by members of the public after allegedly trying to flee the scene of a crash involving a stolen car in Mount Waverley last night.
It's alleged the stolen Holden Commodore station wagon was travelling at high speeds along the Monash Freeway when it crashed into the rear of a Lexus shortly after 8pm.
The Commodore has crossed four lanes of traffic before crashing into a safety barrier, sustaining extensive damage.
The three occupants - a 20-year-Pakenham man, a 19-year-old Beaconsfield woman and 17-year-old girl from the Casey area - allegedly attempted to leave the scene however were detained by witnesses until police arrived.
The male driver remains in hospital under police guard after sustaining serious injuries.
The two females were also taken to hospital however have since been released and will be interviewed at a later date.
The 22-year-old Brighton woman driving the Lexus was treated at the scene for shock.
