Three arrested following pursuit in south coast

Police have arrested three people and are trying to identify a fourth following a pursuit on the NSW south coast last night during which a car crashed and later caught fire, NSW Police say.

About 11.15pm today, police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore station wagon on the Princes Highway at Wandandian, south of Nowra, for a random breath test.

Police initiated a pursuit when the car refused to stop and continued north of the Princes Highway before turning onto the Wool Road, Basin View.

The car then attempted to turn into Tallyan Point Road but lost control, hit a gutter and slid into an embankment.

Four people ran from the vehicle, with a 20-year-old man, a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl arrested nearby. The fourth person could not be located.

A short time later, the station wagon caught alight and was destroyed. Fire fighters attended and extinguished the blaze which had spread to surrounding grassland.

The cause of the fire is still being examined but it’s believed to be a result of the crash.

The three people arrested were taken to Nowra Police Station and have since been released pending further inquiries. Police are also working to identify the fourth person who ran from the vehicle.

They encourage anyone who knows the person’s identity or has information about the incident to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
