Stéphanie L'Écuyer, Assistant Director General of Programming - Creation, announced today that Tina Ouellette is joining the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) as Executive Producer of the NFB's Western Documentary Unit, starting October 1, 2025.
A dynamic and visionary leader, Ouellette brings more than three decades of experience in film, television and digital media production to the role-including 19 years as an executive producer-with a deep commitment to Canadian storytelling.
Ouellette joins the NFB following a distinguished tenure at Global Mechanic, where she served as Executive Producer from 2006 to 2025. Key credits during her time there include a range of landmark science documentaries, such as Frozen in Time (CBC The Nature of Things/PBS; 2025), Hunt for the Oldest DNA (PBS Nova; 2024) and Carbon: The Unauthorised Biography (ABC Australia; 2021). Ouellette also served as producer on award-winning NFB co-productions by Newfoundland-born, Vancouver-based filmmaker Bruce Alcock: Vive la Rose (2009), Impromptu (2013), 54 Hours (2014) and the mobile experience Far Away from Far Away (2020).
She brings deep experience in the private sector at both national and international levels, including co-productions with Ireland and Portugal.
From 2001 to 2005, Ouellette was a producer at Global Mechanic, responsible for TV series, documentaries, feature films and art projects. Prior to joining Global Mechanic, she worked as a freelance associate producer and then producer for major Canadian broadcasters and production companies.
With offices in Vancouver and Edmonton, the Western Documentary Unit works with creators across British Columbia, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Alberta and Saskatchewan-producing bold, innovative documentaries that reflect the region's diverse perspectives and resonate nationally and internationally.
