Tom Gleeson to hit NAFA hard

The programme for the North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA) officially launches today with over 300 acts pegged for the month of July.

The Townsville City Council run festival is bringing huge acts from across the country to the city as part of the inaugural event.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said she is thrilled to announce the major comedy act for this year – top selling comedian Tom Gleeson.

"Hot on the heels of Festival 2018, Council is thrilled to announce another outstanding comedic line-up headlined by the Hard Quiz host and Golden Logie nominee Tom Gleeson," Cr Hill said.

"We're also excited to announce that Fiona O'Loughlin has come on board as part of our Northern Fringe Festival and will be hosted in the Wonderland Spiegeltent.

"These comedians join already announced Akmal Saleh to form a hilarity inducing line-up for our inaugural North Australian Festival of Arts."

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said it is wonderful to have the programme for NAFA officially launched.

"July is fast-approaching, and it is fantastic to launch our NAFA programme at Townsville Eats today," Cr Doyle said.

"Council is incredibly proud of the events that have been pulled together for both NAFA and the Northern Fringe Festival – this really will be a festival for everyone.

"This is a line-up not to be missed and I really encourage everyone to jump on our website, book their tickets early and prepare for an amazing month of arts and culture."

NAFA and the Northern Fringe Festival will kick off with the Neck of the Woods Festival at the end of June and run throughout the entire month of July – finishing with Strand Ephemera on August 4.
