Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy the outdoors in Boroondara. But when temperatures soar, it's important to plan ahead and take steps to stay cool and safe. Heatwaves can affect anybody.
Tips to beat the heat
- Find a cool space at home or visit your local library, leisure and aquatic centre or shopping centre to cool down. Check their opening hours before you go.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.
- Check in on family, friends and neighbours, especially those who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
- Never leave a person or a pet in cars. Temperatures inside cars can rise dangerously fast.
- Be mindful of pets in hot weather as they can feel the heat much more than humans. Unless owners take the necessary precautions, pets can struggle on very hot days.
- In an emergency, always call Triple Zero.
