Tourism industry welcomes return of Andrews Government

The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) congratulates the Hon Daniel Andrews MP and the Victorian Labor party on their success in the 2018 state election.

VTIC Chief Executive Felicia Mariani said the re-election of Labor would mean policy continuity and provide vital certainty for the state's tourism sector.

"Tourism is Victoria's business and has been one of the state's strongest performing sectors, now worth over $27 billion to our economy. Having continuity of government is a real opportunity to build on the great work that has taken place over the past four years," said Ms Mariani.

"Commitments by the Andrews Government to key tourism infrastructure projects such as the Melbourne Airport Rail Link, the Shipwreck Coast Masterplan as part of the Geelong Regional City Deal, and the Etihad Stadium redevelopment are critical to the long-term success of the Victorian visitor economy and allows us to create and deliver the quality experiences today's consumers are seeking."

VTIC's Five Point Plan presented an advocacy platform to both sides of government that put a sharp focus on the need for infrastructure development, particularly in regional areas. Recent statistics from Tourism Research Australia show that Victoria's tourism infrastructure investment performance has improved over the last 12 months, but competition from other states requires a strategic approach to this critical area.

"There remains tremendous opportunity for growth and global positioning for Victoria over the next four years.

"VTIC looks forward to continuing our productive working relationship with the next Andrews Government, to keep delivering world-class tourism products and unforgettable visitor experiences to all who visit our wonderful state," said Ms Mariani.
