The Allan Labor Government is transforming the road network across Melbourne's west, with progress on vital new projects in Werribee, Wyndham Vale and Altona Meadows powering ahead.
Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams today announced works are progressing on the Ison Road Project, helping to deliver Werribee's new connection to the Princes Freeway between Melbourne and Geelong.
Big Build Roads and construction partner Decmil are delivering the extension in partnership Wyndham City Council - with major works to build the connecting road between the complete Ison Road Overpass and upgraded intersection of Geelong and Wests Road due to begin in late November.
Set to cater for more than 29,000 daily journeys by 2036, the new Ison Road overpass and extension will open in late 2026 - making travel around Werribee safer, faster and more reliable.
This project builds on jointly funded upgrades from the Allan and Albanese Labor Governments, including the Werribee Main Road-Princes Freeway Intersection Upgrade and adding extra lanes to Central Avenue between Lunn Court and Skehan Boulevard in Altona Meadows.
Together with the opening of the transformative West Gate Tunnel Project later this year, these works will revolutionise travel across Melbourne's west - supporting thousands of local jobs and better connecting growing communities.
In Wyndham Vale, major works on the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade will start early next year, while construction on the Point Cook and Central Avenue Intersection Upgrade will begin in January 2026.
Both projects will replace existing roundabouts with traffic lights, deliver new lanes and safer pedestrian crossings, and improve connections for local buses, cyclists and drivers.
Once complete in 2027, the upgrades will reduce congestion, cut travel times and make it easier and safer for the 58,000 motorists who use these intersections each day.
