Transit Apartments Rise Near Wellard Station

  • Five development sites opposite Wellard Station to bring more transit-oriented living to Wellard
  • Yaran Property Group to deliver 111 new apartments across four buildings
  • Construction expected to commence in early 2026

The Cook Labor Government has sold five strategic development sites opposite Wellard Station, paving the way for the delivery of 111 new apartments and community infrastructure in Perth's southern corridor.

The 10,793 square metre landholding was serviced by the State Government and has been sold to the Yaran Property Group in a prime location directly opposite Wellard Station, increasing transit-oriented living options in the area.

Following the $6.7 million sale, the land will be transformed into four medium-density apartment buildings delivering 111 new homes.

The developments will include a mix of one-bedroom, one-bathroom and two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments.

A new childcare centre is also proposed, to be delivered by JCP Developments, which will support families and contribute to the growing amenity of the Wellard town centre.

Construction of the apartments is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026.

The sites are ideally positioned near the Wellard Square Shopping Centre, offering future residents convenient access to services and direct rail connections to the Perth CBD.

This project supports the Cook Government's commitment to ensuring every Western Australian has a home, including support for infill development that delivers diverse housing options close to transport and essential services.

The State Government has also secured a builder and Housing Australia Future Funding to deliver 21 affordable and six social homes at another site adjacent to Wellard Station.

As stated by Premier and Kwinana MLA Roger Cook:

"Our government is making sure every Western Australian has a home, including by making State-owned land available and development-ready for new housing.

"It's great to see a significant milestone reached for a project that will provide more housing choice and amenity to the local community."

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Our government is committed to delivering well-planned density close to our METRONET stations and other essential services.

"This land transaction is set to deliver a significant number of new homes near the Wellard Station as well as a new childcare centre to service this growing community."

As stated by Housing and Works and Planning and Lands Minister John Carey:

"This government is doing everything it can to enable well-located infill housing that supports growing communities and provides better access to transport and amenity.

"The Wellard development will deliver more than 100 new apartments, helping to boost housing supply and contributing to a vibrant, connected neighbourhood."
