Trapped Teenager Dies Under Tram in Haymarket

A teenage girl has died after an incident with a tram in Haymarket today.

About 12am (Thursday 11 May 2023), emergency services were called to George Street, Haymarket, following reports of a pedestrian trapped under a light rail tram.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command arrived to find a 16-year-old girl with critical injuries.

Police Rescue – with assistance from Fire & Rescue NSW – freed the girl.

She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, she could not be revived.

The driver – a 52-year-old man – was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
