Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has released its 2026/27 Queensland State Government Budget Advocacy Priorities, setting out the key projects and initiatives it is championing on behalf of the Toowoomba Region community.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said the advocacy document reaffirmed Council's commitment to securing long-term Queensland Government investment in projects that enhance liveability and economic resilience across the region.
"Each year, Council prepares a pre-budget submission that clearly outlines priorities reflecting the needs and aspirations of our community," Mayor McDonald said.
"These priorities guide our discussions with Queensland Government representatives and help ensure the Toowoomba Region continues to be recognised as a place where investment delivers strong and lasting outcomes."
For the 2026/27 Queensland State Budget, Council is seeking support for two major priorities:
- Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct (Stage 1) - a $30 million State Government contribution towards a transformational project that will deliver modern sporting facilities, support regional talent pathways, attract major events and promote active lifestyles.
- Public transport investment - a $3 million co-investment commitment from the State Government to match funds raised through Council's Public Transport Levy, improving regional connectivity, increasing service frequency and enhancing accessibility across urban and rural areas.
"These projects are essential to the future of our region," Mayor McDonald said.
"High-quality community sporting infrastructure and enhanced public transport connectivity are fundamental to supporting population growth, strengthening local industries and improving quality of life for our residents."
In addition, Council will advocate for a range of projects of regional significance, including passenger rail to Withcott, the establishment of a homelessness taskforce for each South-East Queensland Council, a Youth Foyer in Toowoomba, multi-year funding to support Toowoomba's manufacturing hub, planning for the Greater Toowoomba Transport Network, and locally led volunteer hubs and partnerships.
"The Toowoomba Region is truly a place where ambition meets opportunity, and we look forward to partnering with the Queensland Government on projects and initiatives that will benefit our community for decades to come," Mayor McDonald said.
