Tree Removal Completed As Wetlands Project Progresses

Tree removal works have been completed ahead of the wetlands construction. While tree removal is distressing, we want to reassure the community that only exotic trees or those within the excavation zone were removed. Importantly, no indigenous trees nor River Red Gums were removed, and over 70% of trees cleared were exotic or classified as weed species. Felled native trees are remaining on site so they can be used as habitat throughout the reserve.

This work marks a significant step towards bringing the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve Masterplan to life, and creates space for 1,900 new trees and 200,000 new terrestrial and aquatic plants to become a diverse and healthy eco-system.

This leading urban ecology project will be ready to welcome visitors from May 2026, and we're proud to deliver the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve in collaboration with the community, and thanks to the Australian Government for its funding support.
