Three people have been charged after illicit firearms and drugs were seized, following an operation in the state's south.
In November 2025, Strike Force Nevwalk was established to investigate the supply of illicit firearms in the Wagga Wagga area.
About 7.40am on Thursday 8 January 2026, officers attached to Region Enforcement Squad with assistance from Southern Operations Support Group executed a search warrant at a home in North Wagga Wagga.
Following inquiries, a 20-year-old man was arrested at the riverbank of the Murrumbidgee River, on Gardner Street, North Wagga Wagga.
Police attempted to seized the man's phone, when he allegedly threw it into the river and resisted arrest.
He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with 6 offences - unlawfully sell firearms 3 times or more within 12 months, supply shortened firearm (not pistol) to other, two counts of supply, give ammunition to person not authorised etc, supply unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Court 5 on Friday 9 January 2026, where he was formally refused to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 14 January 2026.
About 9.10am on Friday 9 January 2026, officers attached to Region Enforcement Squad with assistance from Southern Operations Support Group and Riverina Police District detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Tumbarumba.
Police searched the house and seized two rifles, nunchaku, OC spray, an electronic stun device, ammunition, 11 grams of methylamphetamine, 106ml GBH, 8 cannabis plants, 70g cannabis and $425 cash.
Electronic devices were also seized for forensic examination.
A 21-year-old man and 44-year-old woman were arrested at the home and taken to Tumbarumba Police Station.
The 44-year-old woman was charged with 7 offences – possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm, not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, 3 counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and possess prohibited drug.
The 21-year-old man was charged with supply prohibited drug greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity, two counts of possess prohibited drug and firearm etc found at premises-subject to prohibition order.
Both were granted conditional bail to appear in Tumbarumba Local Court on Thursday 19 February 2026.
A 51-year-old man in the home was issued with a court attendance notice for cultivate prohibited plant less than small quantity and possess prohibited drug. He will appear in Tumbarumba Local Court on Thursday 19 February 2026.
