Triple trouble in Richmond

Richmond police were kept busy overnight after impounding three vehicles for suspended and disqualified driving in Melbourne's inner east.

Officers were patrolling as part of Operation Compass when they intercepted an Audi A4 on Bridge Road about 12.10am on Saturday, 30 October.

The driver, a 42-year-old Kew man, was found to have a suspended driver's licence.

Officers impounded the car for 30 days at a cost of $873 while the man is expected to be charged on summons with driving whilst authorisation suspended.

Hours later, officers observed a Honda Jazz driving oddly on Bridge Road about 4.50am.

Officers intercepted the car on Wellington Parade and discovered the driver, a 26-year-old Mitcham man, had a disqualified international driver's licence.

His car was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $896.10 and he is expected to be charged on summons with driving whilst disqualified.

Officers were about to knock off when they observed a Jeep Renegade driving unusually on Church Street about 6am.

The driver, a 55-year-old Richmond man, was caught driving while carrying a suspended driver's licence.

His car was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $873 and he is expected to front court at a later date for driving whilst authorisation suspended.

These impounds form part of Operation Compass, a state-wide road policing operation that coincides with Melbourne Cup weekend and the easing of travel restrictions.

Police are targeting speed, distraction, fatigue and impaired driving in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Operation Compass runs until 11.59pm Sunday 7, November 2021.
