The 2026 Geoff Gallop John Monash Scholar is Joshua Snow, a quantum physicist and Fogarty Scholar with a Bachelor of Frontier Physics and a Masters of Quantum Computing and Technology from The University of Western Australia.
The perpetual Geoff Gallop John Monash Scholarship was first introduced in 2024 and is funded by the Cook Labor Government in recognition of the former Western Australian Premier. It is awarded to an outstanding Western Australian every year by the General Sir John Monash Foundation.
Joshua will undertake a Master of Philosophy in Machine Learning and Machine Intelligence at The University of Cambridge to develop the techniques necessary to support the deployment of foundational quantum technologies across Australia.
Joshua, a former Busselton Senior High School student, is one of three Western Australians to receive a prestigious John Monash Scholarship in 2026.
Emersyn Johnson is the 2026 Australian Universities' John Monash Scholar. Emersyn earned a Bachelor of Automation and Robotics and a Master of Professional Engineering from
The University of Western Australia and is undertaking a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at ETH Zurich in Switzerland aiming to advance Australia's research, innovation, and evidence-based health policy in this emerging field. Emersyn attended Mercedes College.
Dr Imogen Thompson is the inaugural recipient of the Sir James McCusker John Monash Scholarship. Imogen originates from Western Australia, completing her secondary schooling at Methodist Ladies College. She now works as an obstetrics and gynaecology doctor at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, and will attend the University of Oxford to undertake a Masters in Global Health Science and Epidemiology to advance equitable fertility care and strengthen women's health innovation in Australia.
As stated by Tertiary and International Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

"Education is an investment in our future and I'd like to congratulate the three Western Australian recipients who, with these scholarships, can focus on further studies that will benefit their communities.
