The biggest celebration of older people in the Tweed, the Tweed Seniors Festival 2026, is taking place from Monday 2 March to Sunday 15 March and will feature an exciting program of over 40 events designed to promote wellbeing, foster community connections and celebrate the contributions of seniors across the Tweed.
This year's theme is "Live Life in Colour!", and there is a full event program bursting with vibrant activities including creative workshops and cultural experiences, social gatherings, cruises, technology sessions and activities for physical and mental wellbeing.
Tweed Shire Council's Director Sustainable Communities & Environment, Naomi Searle, says the festival fosters connection and celebrates the contributions of older people across the Tweed.
"This festival is all about creating opportunities for seniors to connect, learn and have fun. Whether it's trying something new, catching up with friends or discovering local services, there's something for everyone to enjoy," Ms Searle said.
The festival kicks off with a vibrant Opening Ceremony on Monday 2 March at the Murwillumbah Civic & Cultural Centre Auditorium.
The event will include a Seniors Health & Wellness Expo available before and after the ceremony, and the annual presentation of the Local Achievement Awards which celebrate older people who have made a meaningful impact in their communities.
Guests will enjoy entertainment from local musical maestros Chris Mallory, The Fiddle Faddle Band, and a special performance by Classic Movers Dancers. A delicious complimentary morning tea, prepared by the Murwillumbah Country Women's Association Evening Branch, will also be served.
To embrace this year's theme, guests are encouraged to live life in colour and dress in their brightest summer outfits. Free transport to the Opening Ceremony is available from Tweed Heads and Banora Point.
"The Opening Ceremony is always a highlight of the festival, and a chance to celebrate achievements, enjoy great entertainment and connect with friends. We'd love to see as many people as possible join us, so please book your spot early," Ms Searle said.
Tweed Seniors Festival aligns with the NSW Seniors Festival, the largest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
