Two boys have been arrested by officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District following investigations into steal from motor vehicle offences at Salamander Bay and Corlette.
On Sunday 26 July 2026, a vehicle parked in the driveway of a house in The Peninsula, Corlette, was allegedly broken into and a laptop was stolen from inside.
On Monday 27 July 2026, a Mitsubishi station wagon was parked in Scott Circuit, Salamander Bay, was entered and a man's wallet was stolen.
Following inquiries, on Monday 27 July 2026, a 16-year-old boy was arrested at Soldiers Point in relation to the allegedly stolen laptop at Corlette. He has been dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
About 2:05pm on Tuesday 28 July 2026, police attended a fast-food restaurant at Salamander Bay and arrested a 16-year-old boy. He was taken to Nelson Bay Police Station where he was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
Inquiries into both incidents are continuing and further arrests are anticipated.
Inspector David Donovan from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District advised local residents to ensure their parked vehicles were locked overnight, to lessen the chances of it being stolen.
"Leaving vehicles unlocked in the driveway of your house – or on the street – is like an open invitation to any would-be thieves.
"The same goes for leaving valuables in your vehicle – lock it or lose it," Insp Donovan said.
