City of Mount Gambier is calling for community volunteers to help deliver the 2026 Mount Gambier Christmas Parade on Saturday 21 November 2026, with marshal positions available along Commercial Street and at Vansittart Park.
Volunteers play an important role in supporting parade participants, managing the movement of pedestrians and vehicles, and helping the popular community event run safely and smoothly.
City of Mount Gambier Events Team Leader Madeleine Brookes said volunteering provides an opportunity to experience the parade from a different perspective while making a valuable contribution to the community.
"The Christmas Parade is a much loved event, and our volunteers are an essential part of creating a safe and enjoyable experience for participants and spectators," Miss Brookes said.
"This is a rewarding, once a year opportunity to get involved, meet people and contribute to an event that brings our community together."
Christmas Parade Marshals at Vansittart Park will help separate pedestrians from vehicles, support children safely exiting floats and guide them to pick up areas, with a focus on the safety of all participants.
Commercial Street marshals will help maintain safe distances between floats and bands, communicate with float drivers and other marshals, and assist in directing traffic and pedestrians in the event of an emergency.
"We are looking for people with strong communication skills who can follow instructions carefully and are comfortable working in a busy, high energy event environment."
"Whether you have volunteered at the parade before or are looking to get involved for the first time, we would love to hear from you," Miss Brookes said.
Both roles commence at 10:00am on Saturday 21 November 2026 and continue until the parade concludes.
Applicants must hold a current satisfactory National Police Certificate and Working with Children Check. Council and site inductions, on the job training and personal protective equipment will be provided.
