Two Charged After Albury Pursuit

A man and a boy will face court today following an alleged pursuit in the state's south overnight.

About 12.30am today (Tuesday 21 April 2026), officers attached to Murray River Police District were patrolling the Hume Highway, Albury, when they located a grey hatchback being driven dangerously.

Initial checks with the Victoria Police revealed the vehicle was stolen from Wodonga, Victoria, a short time before it was sighted.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through Union Road, North Albury, where road spikes were successfully deployed.

About 12.50am, the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Kurnell Street and Byron Street, North Albury, where the two occupants abandoned the vehicle and left the scene on foot.

A short time later, police arrested a 19-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy nearby.

During the arrest, police located and seized a knife allegedly in possession of the 12-year-old.

They were taken to Albury Police Station where the man was charged with apprehension on warrant issued in another state.

The boy was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, never licensed person drive on road, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and custody knife in public place.

They were both refused bail with the man to appear before Bail Division Court 5 and the boy to appear before a Children's Court today (Tuesday 21 April 2026).
