Police have charged two men after allegedly seizing cigarettes, vapes and tobacco in the state's south.
In March 2025, officers attached to the Hume Police District commenced a joint investigation with NSW Health - Tobacco Enforcement Unit, into illicit tobacco and vaping devices in Yass.
On Tuesday (27 May 2025), police conducted a compliance inspection under the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act.
Almost 4,000 cigarettes were seized, along with 820 cigarette tubes and 68 vapes.
The estimated street value of the items seized including excise is almost $10,000.
A 21-year-old man was issued a Court Attendance Notice to appear before Yass Local Court on Thursday 31 July 2025 for possessing a quantity of vapes greater than commercial quantity, and two counts of goods in custody.
On Thursday 29 May 2025, police attended the same premises and seized a further 27 vapes, almost 4,000 cigarettes and 4.95 kg loose-leaf tobacco.
The estimated street value of the items seized including excise is almost $15,000.
The same man was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station where he was charged with four counts goods suspected of being stolen and possess commercial quantity of vaping goods.
He was refused bail and appeared before Yass Local Court where he was granted conditional bail to appear at the same court Thursday 31 July 2025.
On Saturday 31 May 2025, police attended the same premises and seized a further 216 vapes, more than 37,000 cigarettes and 3.1 kg of loose-leaf tobacco.
The estimated street value of the items seized including excise is almost $64,000.
A 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station where he was charged with three counts goods suspected of being stolen and possess commercial quantity of vaping goods.
He appeared before Yass Local Court today (Saturday 31 May 2025) where he was granted conditional bail to appear at Yass Local Court on Thursday 31 July 2025.
