Financial Crimes Squad's Arson Unit detectives have charged two men following an investigation into two alleged arson attacks at childcare centres under Strike Force Oldbury.
Strike Force Oldbury was established in July 2025, to investigate suspicious fires at a childcare centre in Turramurra on Friday 11 July 2025, and Castle Hill on Monday 14 July 2025.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished both fires, which caused minor damage to the outside of the building. There were no reports of injuries.
A crime scene was established by local police at both locations before the investigation was referred to State Crime Command's Financial Crimes Squad's Arson Squad under Strike Force Oldbury.
Following extensive inquiries, about 8pm on Tuesday 5 May 2026 strike force detectives arrested a 22-year-old man in Ambarvale.
He was taken to Campbeltown Police Station, where he allegedly assaulted two officers while in custody.
The 22-year-old man was charged with aggravated break, enter and commit serious indictable offence in company not steal, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity and two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.
He was refused bail and appeared at Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday 6 May 2026, where he was further refused bail to appear the same court on Wednesday 15 July 2026.
As inquiries continued, about 10am yesterday (Monday 11 May 2026) strike force detectives arrested a 25-year-old man in Wellington.
He was taken to Wellington Police Station where he was charged with two counts of aggravated break, enter and commit serious indictable offence in company not steal and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
The 25-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Local Court 4 today (Tuesday 11 May 2026).
Strikeforce Oldbury inquiries are ongoing.
