Two men arrested for evading police in Melbourne's east

Two men were arrested after evading police in two separate incidents in Melbourne's east early this morning.

It is alleged a white Holden Commodore was seen driving erratically and speeding inbound on the Monash Freeway in Mulgrave just before 3am.

With the assistance from Air Wing, police followed the car to the Wellington Road exit and through the Clayton and Mount Waverley areas.

Stop sticks were deployed and the vehicle came to a stop at the corner of Webster Street and Warrigal Road in Camberwell where the driver was arrested about 3.15am.

While the driver of the Commodore was being arrested a grey Mazda CX5 with no headlights on, sped past the scene.

Air Wing followed the Mazda through the Mount Waverly and Glen Waverley areas.

Stop stick were deployed and the Mazda travelled to Stephenson Road before the driver dumped the vehicle on Dennyse Court in Mount Waverley.

He ran from the scene and was arrested nearby on Stephenson Road just before 4am.

A 38-year-old Ashburton man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving while being pursued by police and other traffic related offences.

He has been remanded to appear Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.

The driver of the Commodore, a 23-year-old Rawson man has been charged with theft of motor car, dangerous driving while being pursued by police and other traffic related offences.

He has been bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates' Court on 28 September.
