Two men will appear in court today after allegedly assaulting several police officers and an Ambulance paramedic at Lugarno yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 3.30pm on Sunday 4 November 2018, a man was on his boat at Lugarno Marina when he had a conversation with two men on jet skis.
The jet ski riders then walked past the man and allegedly slapped him on the back. They entered a nearby restaurant and threatened the man from the balcony where they were seated.
Officers from Botany Bay Water Police arrived and spoke to the two men.
When one of the men became aggressive, an officer tried to arrest him. The officer was allegedly pushed by the man.
Other officers from St George Police Area Command attended and escorted the two men from the restaurant.
The men became involved in altercations with the officers during which a senior constable was punched in the face.
OC Spray was deployed during the incident and both men but were eventually subdued and arrested.
When Ambulance paramedics attended to decontaminate the men, one allegedly spat at a paramedic, hitting her shirt.
The man also spat at a police officer as he was being placed in the caged truck, hitting him in the mouth and eyes.
Both men were taken to St George Hospital for treatment where one of the men allegedly spat at an officer, hitting him in the face.
When released from hospital, both men were taken to St George Police Station.
A 20-year-old Revesby man was charged with stalk/intimidate, assault police (x 4), resist officer in the execution of duty, assault, affray and resist arrest.
A 20-year-old Bankstown man was charged with assault, affray, assault police, wilfully obstruct officer and resist arrest.
Both men were refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Monday 5 November 2018).
Five police officers were treated for minor injuries while the paramedic was not injured.
Marine Area Commander, Superintendent Mark Hutchings said during the boating season the Marine Area Command officers, in operation with NSW Maritime, DTI Fisheries, and other NSW Police Force commands will be out in force.
"They will deal with antisocial activity on the water which will not be tolerated, and any behaviour of this nature will be dealt with accordingly.
"We will be taking a zero tolerance approach toward this type of behaviour and other criminal activity.
"The waterways are to be enjoyed by members of the public without the harassment and bullying of some individuals," Superintendent Hutchings said.
