Two men have been charged with a range of offences, after allegedly stealing diesel from a building site in the state's south.
About 7.30pm on Saturday (11 April 2026), a report was made at Queanbeyan Police Station, after a building site in Tralee, about 10km south-east of Queanbeyan, was allegedly broken into.
Police were told around 3.30pm the same day, a water tank containing 1,000 litres of diesel – worth approximately $3,500 - was stolen from the building site.
CCTV was seized and detectives attached to Monaro Police District commenced inquiries.
About 8am yesterday (Thursday 16 April 2026), officers attached to Monaro Police District Proactive Crime Team executed a search warrant, with assistance from Hume Police District Proactive Crime Team and Monaro Region Enforcement Squad, at a home in Longden Way, Queanbeyan.
During the search, police seized a small amount of methylamphetamine and arrested a 27-year-old man.
He was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station, where he was charged with larceny, enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, destroy or damage property, take part supply prohibited drug greater than small and less than or equal to indictable quantity, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, possess prohibited drug and breach of bail.
About 4pm yesterday, a second search warrant was executed at a home in Mount Fairy Road, Mount Fairy.
During the search, police seized a ute and the allegedly stolen water tank filled with 1,000 litres of diesel.
A second man, aged 37, was found allegedly hiding inside the home. He was arrested and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.
The 37-year-old was charged with enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse and larceny.
They were refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today (Friday 17 April 2026).
