UK Animal Health Agency Names New Lead Director

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) has today (Monday 26 February) announced the appointment of Elizabeth Buchanan CVO as Lead Non-Executive Director.

Non-executive board members are senior figures from outside government, appointed to provide challenge to government departments and bodies. All non-executive board member appointments follow an open and transparent process, in line with the government's Code of Good Practice for Corporate Governance in Central Government Departments.

Elizabeth's term will begin on 1 April 2024 and last for three years. She succeeds Chris Nicholson, who has served as Lead Non-Executive Director since 2018.

The APHA Steering Board provides strategic direction and is responsible for ensuring the agency meets its targets and manages risks.

A former non-executive board member at the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, Elizabeth has worked in senior roles across the public and private sectors for over thirty years. She also manages her family's 300-acre organic livestock farm in East Sussex, which produces pedigree Sussex beef.
