UK Consulate Toronto Announces 2024 Consul General for Day Contest

The UK and Canada are committed to sharing expertise to ensure equal opportunities for women and girls around the world. This Ontario-wide competition is being organised to celebrate International Women's Day 2024.

The British Consulate in Toronto is home to teams providing consular services, working to boost our trade and investment between the UK and Ontario, promoting tourism to the UK, supporting devolved nations and more. Take up the title of Consul General for a day, and experience front-line diplomacy at work in your province.

The Consul General for a Day competition is open to girls (trans girls included) resident in Ontario aged 14 to 18.

How to enter

To apply to be 'Consul General for a Day', applicants must create a poster on the following theme:

'If you were British Consul General in Toronto for a day, what would be your top 3 priorities for the UK and Ontario?'

The deadline for applications is 5 April 2024.

The competition winner will be contacted by 11 April 2024.

This new initiative is a unique chance for Ontario girls to experience diplomacy first hand, to learn more about the unique relationship between the UK and Ontario, and to influence on some of the biggest global causes of today.

Important tips

Creativity will be an important judging criterion.

The competition's jury will be a diverse panel representing different backgrounds, to ensure a fair and inclusive evaluation process.

Terms and conditions

A jury at the British Consulate General will select the winner, who will be announced by 11 April 2024. Only one entry per participant will be accepted. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified. The Consul General's decision is final and no correspondence relating to the above will be possible.

By entering the competition, participants transfer the copyright ownership of their posters to the BCG Toronto. BCG may use these posters to produce content for future communication on relevant social media channels.

You should not share personal details in your poster.

The Consul General for a Day programme will take place in-person in Toronto. Funding of travel or accommodation to Toronto as part of the competition will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
