The Open Innovation Team (OIT) has begun a two-year collaboration with the Australian Public Policy Institute (APPI).
The Open Innovation Team (OIT) has begun a collaboration with the Australian Public Policy Institute (APPI), a government-university joint venture dedicated to evidence-based policy research.
Over the next two years, the partnership will allow us to exchange ideas and share learning on how to strengthen the use of research and innovation in government.
The collaboration will focus on three main areas of shared interest:
- Rapid policy projects: exploring ways to bring academic expertise into live policy questions quickly and effectively.
- Academic engagement: developing practical approaches to involve researchers in policy work and increase the impact of academic research.
- Capability and fellowship programmes: exchanging experience on initiatives that build policy capability and support professional development across government.
Through this partnership, the OIT aims to learn from APPI's methods and experience in Australia, while sharing insights from our own work across the UK civil service.
Notes:
- APPI was launched in 2021 and has formal agreements in place with the Commonwealth Government (via the Australian Public Service Commission) and New South Wales Government until 2039. It works with a network of university partners across Australia to provide timely, evidence-based policy advice.
- The Open Innovation Team was founded in 2016 as a cross-government unit that works with experts to generate analysis and ideas for policy, helping government colleagues review evidence, engage experts, develop policy and evaluate impact.
