UN Expert on Violence Against Women Visits Kuwait

GENEVA - The UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Alsalem will conduct a country visit to the State of Kuwait from 2 to 9 September 2025. The visit is taking place at the invitation of the Government of the State of Kuwait

During her visit, Alsalem will examine national legal and practical frameworks aimed at preventing violence against all women and girls residing in the State of Kuwait - be they Kuwaiti nationals, foreigners, or persons whose nationality cannot be determined. She will assess the mechanisms in place to effectively assist and support survivors of violence.

The Special Rapporteur will meet with authorities, representatives from the international community, civil society organisations, academia, and individual women and girls.

The expert will hold a press conference on Tuesday 9 September at 16:00 local time at the United Nations House, Mishref, Block 7A, Diplomatic Square, State of Kuwait. Access will be strictly limited to journalists.

Alsalem will present a full report to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2026.
