UN Women Marks One-Year Anniversary of Mahsa Amini's Death

UN Women

One year ago, Jina Mahsa Amini died in custody in Tehran, Iran, sparking widespread protests against injustice and deadly reprisal. To date, calls for accountability have remained unanswered. But the women and girls of Iran are not unheard.

We must heed their calls for all their rights, without fear of violence, torture, prosecution, or persecution and their demands to protest safely. The human rights of all people, everywhere, that are set out in the Charter of the United Nations include freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association. The women and girls of Iran must be no exception.
